Series of Webinars to Strengthen the Judicial Response to COVID-19

The National School of Judges and USAID New Justice Program are pleased to invite you to participate in a series of webinars to strengthen the judicial response to COVID-19.

This well-timed series will be conducted together with the National Judicial College in Reno, NV (U.S.) using the Zoom ( video conferencing platform. The webinars will cover critical issues facing the Ukrainian judiciary today, provide an opportunity for Ukrainian judges, court administrators and mediators to learn from U.S. judicial experience and response to COVID-19 as well as share steps that Ukraine is taking in relation to the pandemic.

Webinar 1: The Role of the Judge and Court Administrator in a Pandemic

This webcast will emphasize that all judicial branch employees, including judges and court administrators, have a role to play, whether it is ruling correctly on cases involving public health emergencies or violations of quarantine restrictions, taking a leadership role in preparing for an effective response by their courts, developing and implementing emergency action plans, communicating with court staff, media and the public, and ensuring continuity of court operations.

Webinar 2: Mediation: Key Elements for Successful Programs

Date: Wednesday, April 29, 2020

4:00 PM – 5:30 PM

This webcast will enable participants to understand how to continue to help resolve cases during this period of “social distancing” and open doors for more mediation opportunities. This will include identifying ways to conduct distance mediations and demonstrating the advantages of mediation as a supportive mechanism for judges and court staff to ensure access to justice together with the mediator community.

Webinar 3: Mindfulness and Stress-Reduction in Trying Times

Date: Thursday, April 30, 2020

4:00 PM – 5:15 PM

This webcast will explore the most current research on mindfulness, including the neuroscience underlying mindfulness and the effects of mindfulness on work-related skills and behaviors. Participants will learn how mindfulness can help them to cope with stress, enhance leadership and boost creativity, which is crucial for providing effective response to current challenges.
