The USAID New Justice Program will support the Council of Judges in conducting the third regional roundtable discussion under a series of regional events on updating the Code of Judicial Ethics. The roundtable discussion is aimed at identifying the relevant issues of judicial ethics and conflict of interest that judges face in practice and which need additional regulation. The USAID New Justice Program expert, Member of the U. S. Judicial Conference’s Codes of Conduct Committee, U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Utah Judge William Thurman will share with the participants the U.S. practice in regulating the important judicial ethics-related issues such as conduct in social media, financial interest of a judge, making public statements, and recusals. Also, participants of the event will discuss the necessity of revising certain provisions of the Code of Judicial Ethics. The Council of Judges members, and judges from several oblasts of Ukraine including Odesa, Mykolaiv, Kherson, and Kirovohrad, will participate in the event.
