Ukrainian Delegation Took Part in the Conference of Court Public Information Officers, Cleveland, Ohio, USA

The USAID New Justice Program organized the visit of the Ukrainian delegation to the USA on August 4-7, 2019, to participate in the annual National Conference of Court Public Information Officers. Every year the event brings together judges, court public information officers, and renowned American PR experts to discuss the specific facing these judiciaries in promoting judicial transparency through modern communications tools and effective cooperation with the media.

The Ukrainian delegation included Deputy Chief Judge of the High Anti-Corruption Court of Ukraine Yevhen Kruk, and Speaker Judge of Khmilnyk city district court of Vinnytsya Oblast Olha Honcharuk-Alifanova, Head of Press-Center of the Judiciary Oksana Lysenko, Communications Advisor of the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court Karyna Aslanyan, Head of the Press-Service of the Supreme Court Mariia Shvenko, and Court Public Information Officer of Court of Appeals of Khmelnytsky Oblast Yulia Saldan.

During the event, they will familiarize with the best court practices in setting up interaction with the media, educational court projects, community outreach, internal communications and use of social media.

Ohio Supreme Court Chief Justice Maureen O’Connor in her speech emphasized the significance of courts for the society development, “Courts are the cornerstone of our democracy and we became the agents of changes. If not courts than who will address the needs of the society?”

“CPIO in each court should take time from their schedule and educate your big writer about the court”, said Administrative and Presiding Judge of the Cuyahoga County Court of Common Pleas, the largest civil disputes court, John J. Russo.

Head of Press-Center of the Judiciary Oksana Lysenko and speaker judge of Khmilnyk city district court of Vinnytsya Oblast Olha Honcharuk-Alifanova will present the Ukrainian experience of court communications. This conference offers for Ukrainian participants a unique opportunity to set up professional contacts with its American colleagues and share the experience on the international level.
