USAID Supports Implementation of the First Rule of Law Certificate Program in Ukraine

The USAID New Justice Program, jointly with the University of South Carolina (South Carolina, USA) and Yaroslav the Wise National Law University (Kharkiv, Ukraine), conducted a five-day workshop to finalize curriculum and materials for the first ever in Ukraine Rule of Law Certificate Program. The goal of the program is to improve skills of judges, prosecutors, attorneys, and other practicing lawyers, as well as master and post graduate students, in applying the rule of law in their work.

The certificate program builds on the existing curricula and related materials of LL.M. programs in the rule of law implemented in the United States but is being tailored to the needs of the Ukrainian legal system and adapted to the Ukrainian context. During the workshop, the participants have agreed upon the curriculum and syllabi for each course of the certificate program, analyzed respective court decisions, case studies, articles, and other relevant materials related to the topics to be covered within the certificate program, and decided on the teaching methodology for each course. The certificate program will start this fall at Yaroslav the Wise National Law University.
